About Me
I was born and raised in Kathmandu, Nepal. I completed my Bachelor of Civil Engineering at Regional Engineering College, Silchar, India, and my Master’s in Structural Engineering at the Asian Institute of Technology, Thailand. Having first-hand experience of devastating earthquakes in Nepal, I was keen to pursue research in earthquake-resilient infrastructure. This led me to Japan, where I completed my PhD in Earthquake and Structural Engineering at Saitama University.
After completing my PhD and a Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS) postdoctoral fellowship, I began my academic career as a Lecturer at the University of Canterbury, New Zealand, in 2008. I joined James Cook University (JCU), Australia, in 2009 and held several leadership roles during my tenure, including Head of Engineering, Associate Dean (Learning and Teaching), and Director of International Studies. In July 2024, I had the privilege of joining CQUniversity as the Dean of the School of Engineering and Technology. Throughout my academic career, I have been passionate about creating inclusive and supportive learning environments for students, delivering translational research and innovation through industry collaboration, and producing job-ready graduates.
General
Background
I am currently the Dean of the School of Engineering and Technology (SET) at CQUniversity. The School comprises three Colleges: Engineering and Aviation; Information and Communication Technology; and Project Management, Built Environment, and Asset and Maintenance Management. SET is a vibrant and rapidly growing academic community, with more than 200 staff and over 6,500 students. With delivery across eight campuses, we have one of the largest footprints in engineering and technology education of any university in Australia. I provide strategic and academic leadership, along with operational management of the School, setting direction for learning and teaching, research, and industry and community engagement, while overseeing the effective and sustainable operation of the School.
As a member of the Tertiary Education Division, I contribute to institutional strategy, including the design and delivery of high-quality courses and the maintenance of a supportive and inclusive learning environment for students. Alongside my leadership roles, I maintain an active research profile, securing competitive research funding and driving translational research in sustainable and innovative construction materials.
I am a Registered Professional Engineer of Queensland and a Fellow of Engineers Australia.
