Responsibilities
- Represent the discipline at course committee meetings in the course area
- Communicate outcomes of meetings to staff within the discipline area
- Represent the discipline at appropriate local forums at a regional, national, and international level
- Being aware of current issues and developments in the discipline that may impact:
- requirements to make a course or unit changes and
- opportunities to develop new provisions
- Work closely with the Head of Courses, Head of College, and Deputy Dean of Learning and Teaching to maintain dialogue with and prepare submissions to accreditation bodies
- Work with the Head of Courses regarding discipline-specific knowledge for such items as course articulation, credit transfers, and academic credit requests
- Provide leadership, mentoring, and guidance for staff in the discipline area
- Conduct tutorials, practical classes, demonstrations, workshops, student field excursions
- Investigate academic misconduct cases
- Preparation and delivery of lectures and seminars
- Supervision of the program of study of honours students or postgraduate students engaged in coursework
- Supervision of Undergraduate and postgraduate research projects
- Conduct research (either individually or within a more extensive project as appropriate to the academic's abilities)
- Involvement in professional activities
- Development of unit materials with appropriate advice from and support of senior staff
