About Me

Dr. Fatima Afzal is the Head of Course – Construction Management at the College of Project Management, Built Environment, Asset & Maintenance Management, School of Engineering and Technology, Central Queensland University (CQUniversity). She holds a Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering from NED University (Pakistan), a Master of Project Management, and a PhD in Construction Management from the University of New South Wales (UNSW).

Dr. Afzal has over eleven years of academic experience and has led course design, curriculum development, and program accreditation at major Australian universities. She has successfully supervised PhD and Master’s students and has been recognised with multiple teaching excellence awards, including Dean’s Commendations and Faculty Awards.

Her research focuses on sustainability in project-based organisations, particularly improving environmental and social performance in the construction sector. She has collaborated on public-sector research projects relating to sustainable building design, circular economy practices, and the application of technologies such as BIM and machine learning to advance sustainability outcomes.

In addition to her academic work, Dr. Afzal serves in an advisory capacity to public and private sector bodies on sustainability and workforce development in the built environment. She is also a passionate educator with a strong focus on student engagement, innovative pedagogy, and digital transformation in higher education. Dr. Afzal has been invited to speak at numerous academic and industry forums on sustainability leadership, women in construction, and the future of construction education.
