About Me

I am Dr. Quddus Tushar, a project-specialized professional who combines technical expertise, practical experience, and personal attributes to ensure successful project outcomes.
My specialized areas are building projects, architecture and structural design, energy simulation, life cycle assessment (LCA), and building information modeling (BIM). Proficiency in BIM enhances my efficiency and accuracy in building design, construction, and operation, contributing to sustainable architecture and engineering.

General
Background

I have implemented several construction and project management jobs, including implementation of Building Information Modeling (BIM), Digital Twin, Life Cycle Impact Assessment (LCIA), and site surveys, including the precious location, access, best orientation for the site, and location of obstacles for design, estimation, and completion of initial tasks.

I contributed to writing Australia's EcoPlast Proposal in integrating environmental impact assessment, led by Professor Sujeeva Setunge (Associate DVC, h-index 56). I also supervised three groups of undergraduate Capstone project students in developing research proposals, designing experiments, analyzing data, and publishing their findings.

Universities Studied At

I pursued a PhD in sustainable construction management, which involves an in-depth exploration of advanced topics in recycling waste materials, digital modeling, and integrated project delivery. I enrolled in this program at RMIT University under the Research Training Program (RTP), supported by the Australian Government with a 4-year scholarship. Relevant research outcomes during my Ph.D. assisted in upgrading the sustainable policy of recycling waste materials and the Australian National Energy Rating Scheme at the operation phase of buildings.

Universities Worked At

November 2024: Lecturer, Central Queensland University, Brisbane
April 2024: Lecturer, Southern Cross University, Gold Coast
January 2022: Research Assistant (Postdoctoral fellow)
December 2021: Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology, Melbourne, Australia.
Ph.D. in Civil Engineering, School of Engineering, RMIT University

Awards

In recognition of my excellent teaching performance, I received excellence in teaching in 2022 and a certificate of achievement in 2017 for conducted courses. My average Good Teaching Scale (GTS) score is 86.75% in relevant classes, one of the top scores in teaching. The score above 92% in the CIVE 1149 course (Construction Management) in 2018 and 2020 is remarkable among them. My last score in teaching is 4.88 out of 5 (97.6%) in Risk and Resilience Engineering (PBHL 5002) at Southern Cross University (SCU).

Media Citations

My research contributes significantly to waste recycling strategies, emphasising natural resource conservation, circular economy principles, and carbon footprint reduction. As the principal author, I have contributed to 15 articles (h-index 13, i10 index 15) among 28 publications since 2020. Performed research outcomes have been published in leading high-impact journals. A key focus is transforming municipal solid waste incineration ash into cementitious materials, presenting sustainable solutions for waste management.

Notable contributions include the impact assessment of recycling waste tyres into polymer (Journal of Environmental Management, IF 8.91), recycling glass waste for concrete aggregates and asphalt mixture (Science of the Total Environment, IF 8.2), replacing cement with 20% fly ash and 30% slag (Construction and Building Materials, IF 7.4), recycling waste cooking oil as a rejuvenator (Science of the Total Environment, IF 8.2), managing and recycling of common waste (Journal of Cleaner Production, IF 11.07) and others. The research track record shows expertise in conducting Life Cycle Assessment (LCA), Life Cycle Costing (LCC), and resource optimization.

Previous teaching

I have achieved valuable experience in both online and face-to-face teaching at RMIT, Southern Cross University (SCU) and CQ University. I completed my Ph.D. by publications from RMIT University and completed the practical course of Certificate IV in Building and Construction and Certificate IV in TAE. Besides these, I prepared the course curriculum Risk and Resilience Engineering (PBHL 5002), Engineering Management for a Sustainable Future (ENGN 6002), Building Information Engineering Management (ENGN 6003), Professional Estimating (NBC 2006) and lectures for both Southern Cross University(SCU) and Victoria University.

Professional Experience

I am actively involved in SSROC research projects and have gained skills in construction projects using Microsoft Project, FirstRate 5, Autodesk Revit BIM, Statistical SPSS, @RISK, and Life Cycle Assessment software Tally and SimaPro.

Professional Memberships

I have qualified as a Green Star Accredited Professional (GSAP) to improve practice; current and future leaders must be aware of potential solutions. Besides these, I am a member of the Australian Flexible Pavement Association.

Responsibilities

My position as a Lecturer at Central Queensland University (CQU), Southern Cross University (SCU), postdoctoral research fellow, and academic at RMIT University has enhanced my communication skills and developed my leadership qualities. Furthermore, I have gathered experience consulting students, multinational and multidisciplinary team members, clients, and stakeholders.

Professional Interests

My previous experience in architectural design, sustainability, construction management, and present academic research would allow me to contribute successfully to the research sector.

Key Achievements

I have a comprehensive understanding of waste recycling strategies that govern preserving natural resources, promoting a circular economy, and reducing carbon footprint. My research outcomes show a clear track record of quality publications in minimizing waste and decarbonization since 2021. I published fifteen (15) articles as the principal author in reputed high-impact journals such as the Journal of Cleaner Production (IF 11.07), Journal of Environmental Management (IF 8.91), Science of the Total Environment (IF 8.2), Construction and Building Materials (IF 7.4) and others.

Research outcomes emphasize the benefits of collecting waste and converting it into useful construction materials. Transforming waste into products will alleviate landfill pressure and reduce contamination and demand for resource extraction. However, the consecutive recycling process requires to be justified from an energy consumption and emissions perspective. The energy-intensive recycling process is the main barrier to achieving sustainability. Therefore, the prime research focus is relative uncertainty in manufacturing recycled products, maintaining design standards, and reducing raw materials extraction. Converting municipal solid waste incineration ash into cementitious materials brings meaningful solutions to waste management and conservation of natural resources.

Computer Software

Experience in operating and teaching software: MS Project, Autodesk Revit, Navisworks, Context Capture, Auto CAD, FirstRate5, @RISK, SPSS, Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) tool (Tally), SimaPro, Origin, and others.

Consultancy Work

I joined as a postdoctoral research fellow in January 2022 under the guidance of Professor Filippo Giustozzi, Discipline Leader, Materials and Structure, RMIT University. My postdoctoral research aims to solve industrial problems aligned with three (3) pillars of sustainability: environmental, economic, and social.

At this stage, recycled products and activities of waste recovery facilities have been justified from mechanical, chemical, and ecological perspectives. An estimated carbon footprint at various product life cycle stages assists in identifying sustainable carbon reduction strategies. Collaborative remarkable research projects between universities and industries.
