About Me

I am a Senior Lecturer in Construction Management and the Discipline Lead for Building Design. With over 13 years of academic experience across Australia, Nigeria, and beyond, my career integrates teaching, research, and industry engagement. Originally trained as an architect, I earned both a Bachelor of Technology (Hons) and a Master of Technology degree in Architecture from the Federal University of Technology, Akure, Nigeria. I later completed a PhD in Building at the University of Newcastle, Australia, where my doctoral research developed a circular economy–based framework for construction waste minimisation.

Over time, my research has evolved into a broader exploration of sustainable construction, the circular economy, construction waste management, disaster resilience, and digital innovation (including BIM and AI applications). What drives my work is a simple question: how can we design and manage the built environment in ways that are not only technically sound but also environmentally and socially responsible?

Research and Contributions

I have published more than 50 scholarly outputs, including a Routledge-edited book, high-impact journal articles, and industry reports, alongside frequent contributions to public discourse through media and opinion pieces. My work has been recognised globally, most recently with the Best Paper Award for W120 at the 2025 CIB World Building Congress and one of the 2024 Most Cited Paper Awards for Resources, Conservation & Recycling.

My research has attracted funding of nearly A$600,000, with projects ranging from material circularity in construction to disaster preparedness for animal evacuation. These projects often cut across disciplines, linking sustainability science, engineering, social sciences, and industry practice.

Internationally, I serve as a guest editor and associate editor for respected journals and as a member of several professional bodies, including the Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB) and the Australian Institute of Building (AIB).

Collaboration and Impact

My research has been applied in both academic and industry contexts. For example, I co-authored industry guidelines for emergency animal evacuation facilities in New South Wales, and I regularly consult on the integration of circular economy principles into construction practice. I have been invited to speak at global conferences and industry events in Australia, Nigeria, Colombia, and beyond, sharing insights on how construction can become more resilient, resource-efficient, and future-ready.

Collaboration has always been central to my work. I welcome partnerships with academics, industry leaders, and government agencies who are interested in exploring sustainability transitions, digital transformation in construction, and applied circular economy strategies.

Supervision and RHD Opportunities

I have supervised and co-supervised more than a dozen students and am currently guiding RHD candidates working on topics such as sustainable procurement, construction risk management, and circular economy adoption. I particularly enjoy mentoring students who bring interdisciplinary approaches and global perspectives to their projects.

I am keen to work with new RHD students who are passionate about:

  • Circular economy in construction and the built environment
  • Sustainable construction technologies and practices
  • Disaster resilience and risk reduction strategies
  • Digital innovations in construction project management and BIM
  • Sustainability education and workforce skills development

If you are considering research in these areas or related fields, I encourage you to reach out. I am always open to discussing potential projects and collaboration ideas.

Let’s Collaborate

I am keen to partner with industry stakeholders, government agencies, and academic institutions on projects that drive innovation and sustainability in construction. Whether through joint research, consultancy, or knowledge exchange, I aim to deliver solutions that create measurable impact for communities and businesses.
