Dr. Osama Dawoud is a lecturer at the Project Management College within the School of Engineering & Technology. He earned his PhD in Engineering from the University of Cambridge in 2015. Since beginning his academic career in 2007, Dr. Dawoud has gained extensive experience, serving in key positions such as Head of the Civil Engineering Department and Vice Dean of the Faculty of Engineering. Prior to joining CQU in November 2023, he was an assistant professor at the Faculty of Engineering and Applied Sciences at Istinye University in Turkey, where he taught courses on project management planning and control, risk assessment, and information technology applications in project management, as well as water resources management, hydraulics, hydrology, and Geographic Information Systems (GIS).
Dr. Dawoud is dedicated to sustainability and environmental development, demonstrated through his professional consultancy work. As a Project Manager and Team Leader, he has led projects for private consulting firms and international non-governmental organisations, including Action Against Hunger – Spain. Additionally, he coordinated the Water Quality Working Group within the WASH cluster managed by UNICEF and PWA.
He is a professional researcher with a remarkable publication record in esteemed journals. His expertise centers on the application of technology and data science in project management, with a particular emphasis on risk assessment. His research also encompasses sustainable materials, environmental pollution, water resources management, participatory development approaches, and risk management. Dr. Dawoud has leveraged his experience in GIS and spatial analysis to develop management plans for various real-world issues. He actively contributes to the academic community by serving as a reviewer for multiple SCI-indexed journals and participating in numerous prestigious conferences.
Dr. Dawoud's contributions have been recognized with various awards, including the best paper in the Environment Theme at the AINAC 2012 conference in the UAE. He also received the Atkin’s Prize from GRO Group at Cambridge University for the best research among second-year PhD students in 2012. His academic excellence has been further acknowledged through the prestigious DAAD and IDB Merit scholarships in 2005 and 2011, respectively.
