About Me

Dr. Osama Dawoud is a Lecturer in Project Management in the School of Engineering and Technology at CQUniversity Australia. He completed his PhD in Engineering at University of Cambridge in 2015. He holds internationally recognised professional certifications from the Project Management Institute, including Project Management Professional (PMP®), Agile Certified Practitioner (PMI-ACP®), and Certified Professional in Management of AI Projects (PMI-CPMAI®). With more than 15 years of combined academic, professional, and international experience, he has developed a multidisciplinary career spanning project management, engineering, infrastructure delivery, higher education, and humanitarian development. Prior to joining CQU in November 2023, he served as an Assistant Professor in the Faculty of Engineering and Applied Sciences at Istinye University, Turkey. He held several academic leadership roles, including five years as Head of the Civil Engineering Department and Vice Dean of the College of Engineering. He also led accreditation teams responsible for aligning programs with ABET standards and European higher education quality assurance requirements associated with the Bologna Process.

His research interests focus on artificial intelligence applications in project management, management of AI projects through CPMAI, agile change management, data science and exploratory analytics, sustainable project management, flood risk assessment and mitigation, and geographic information systems (GIS) for decision support. He is also active in research related to smart cities, resilient infrastructure, and digital twins. His work seeks to integrate intelligent technologies, analytics, and management systems to enhance green, resilient, and sustainable project performance. He has published in leading Q1 journals, including Clean Production (IF 10) ; Desalination (IF 9.8);  and Environmental Impact Assessment Review (IF 11.2).

Before joining academia, Dr. Dawoud held leadership and technical roles across the private sector, government organisations, and international NGOs. He managed and contributed to projects in environmental management, water resources, renewable energy, transportation, construction, and community development. He has directly managed projects with budgets of up to USD 1 million and led technical teams in national programs exceeding USD 400 million. His international humanitarian experience includes project leadership roles with UNICEF and Action Against Hunger.

Dr. Dawoud’s achievements have been recognised through several distinguished awards and scholarships. These include the Best Paper Award in the Environment Theme at the AINAC 2012 Conference, as well as the Atkin’s Prize from the GRO Group at University of Cambridge for the best research performance among second-year PhD students in 2012.
