I am a senior Lecturer in assets and maintenance management in the School of Engineering and Technology, Central Queens University, Australia. I was awarded a Bachelor of Science in Engineering from Egerton University in 1996, a Master of Engineering by Research from University of Southern Queensland in 2007 and a PhD from University of New England in 2020. For my PhD research attracted the prestigious Chancellor’s Doctoral Research Medal for the Doctor of Philosophy Award. I also have a Professional Certificate in Infrastructure Financial Management from the Institute of Public Works Engineering Australasia (IPWEA).
I have over 27 years professional and research experience and I have gained valuable engineering, management and leadership skills in civil/environmental/agricultural engineering fields working in public, private consultancy, and tertiary education sectors in Australia and overseas. My experience spans across procurement and construction, engineering design planning and design, water and sewerage, project management, contract management, research and feasibility studies and asset management strategy, policy, planning and implementation.
Upon completing my PhD, I worked in local governments as Asset Infrastructure Manager (Uralla Shire Council in NSW) and a Senior Asset Engineer (Rockhampton City Council, in Queensland) and as a part-time lecturer in Remote Sensing at Central Queensland University. I have previously taught undergraduate and postgraduate subjects on Hydrological Modelling, Solid and Structural Mechanics, Soil and Water Pollution management, Irrigation and Drainage Engineering and Environmental Monitoring and Control at the University of Nairobi, Kenya and Remote Sensing of Environment at Central Queensland University (CQUniversity).
I joined Central Queensland University in 2024 as a Senior Lecturer in Assets and Maintenance Management at the School of Engineering and Technology. I am a professional engineering member of Engineers Australia, an accredited Civil Engineer in National Engineers Register (NER), Australia and a Registered Professional Engineer in Queensland (RPEQ). I maintain strong industry connections, through the Engineers Australia, Industry focus research, IPWEA and frequent reviewing in top level international journals including Sustainability, Water and Total Science of Environment.
I have a strong passion in infrastructure planning, project management, asset and maintenance management and asset management strategy, policy, planning and implementation; GIS, and spatial analysis; and investigation. My primary research is related to infrastructure, hydrology, geomorphology, remote sensing, geospatial engineering, asset and maintenance management, climate change, water engineering and resource management and sustainable development to support water and food security.
I am a Senior Lecturer in asset and maintenance at Central Queensland University with an enduring commitment to infrastructure asset management and maintenance both in public and private sectors and a research focus in Water/Environmental Engineering. I look forward enhanced contribution to a more sustainable water, infrastructure and environment that is resilient and adaptative to climate change. In keeping with my commitment and focus, I value industry partnerships and take keen interest in undertaking research of relevance to industry and the community and the translation of research outcomes for real life application.
For 3 years, I worked in local governments in Queensland and New South Wales in asset management as a Manager Assets and a Senior Asset Engineer. Previous I held a Chief Manager Technical Services and Operations at the Tana and Athi Rivers Development Authority (TARDA) for Six years. In this role, I coordinated planning, design, implementation of various civil, environmental and Agricultual infrastructure programs and projects and provided leadership and operation management with the whole organisation. For 3 years, I was the Project Engineer for an African Development Bank- Government of Keny Project aimed at contributing to poverty reduction and food security in rural Kenya through Infrastructure and Irrigation Development, for Ten years, I was a part-time Lecturer at the University of Nairobi and for 11 years, I worked with Government of Kenya where I rose through the rank from an Engineer to the level of a Principal Superintending Engineer.
