Dr. Thomas Doering is a Senior Lecturer in Health Sciences at CQUniversity (CQU). He is currently the Head of Course for Allied Health, and Deputy Chair of the First Nations Success Strategies Committee at CQU.
Tom holds dual accreditation as an Accredited Exercise Physiologist (AEP) and Sports Scientist (ASpS2) with Exercise and Sports Science Australia (ESSA). He has substantial industry experience in clinical settings as an allied health professional, and sporting environments as a strength and conditioning coach/sports scientist. Given his experience and research focus, Tom is responsible for coordinating and teaching into multiple units within the Bachelor of Allied Health and currently teaches into the Exercise and Sport Science program at CQU.
Tom’s research has two key and overlapping themes: 1) applied sport sciences to understand and improve athlete performance; and 2) exercise physiology, with specific interest in skeletal muscle physiology to understand adaptations to exercise, disuse/detraining, and ageing. Tom has authored >30 peer-reviewed journal articles and conference abstracts, been and invited speaker at national meetings and presented at international conferences. He has international collaborators spanning 26 research institutes across 10 countries, and currently supervises multiple PhD and honours students.
