Ritesh Chugh is an Associate Professor in Information and Communication Technologies in the School of Engineering and Technology. As an award-winning educationist and researcher with many years of rich experience, he has contributed to varied pedagogical and research outcomes. His sustained, well-rounded accomplishments, learner-centred teaching practices, quality research output, progressive community engagement and participation in many leadership activities demonstrate a positive can-do attitude.
His research as an information systems socio-technological expert focuses on the social role of emerging information systems and their influence on humans and organisations in real-world settings. He takes an inter-disciplinary approach in research under the overarching theme of information systems, including socio-technical aspects of systems management, social media, knowledge management, project management, educational systems, and technology-enhanced learning. He has written widely in these areas, with his research published in several leading academic journals. His forte lies in qualitative research, with diverse experience in framework development, conducting focus groups and qualitative analysis. He has presented and published his work in many reputable international conferences too. Ritesh is a peer reviewer, program committee member, session chair and program committee chair for many international refereed conferences, thus providing a wide range of service diversity to the academic community. He is also on the editorial boards of multiple high-quality journals. In addition, he has been invited as a guest and keynote speaker, both nationally and internationally, on many occasions to share his research and academic best practices with diverse stakeholders.
Ritesh’s teaching is informed by scholarship and guided by his philosophy of teaching statement - the central tenets of which are based on an acronym for TEACHING that he coined - Thoughtful, Eclectic, Approachable, Challenging, Humorous, Inquisitive, Natural and Gauging. In particular, he has extensive experience in teaching, content development and administration in Information Systems (IS) Management, Process Analysis, Design and Management, and IS Project Management at both undergraduate and graduate levels. As an enthusiastic and committed educator, he has received several awards and commendations recognising his teaching excellence, commitment to improved student outcomes and engagement in reflective learning and teaching activities. His work experience in the higher education sector has predominantly been in multicultural educational settings, which has provided him with both a domestic and global flair. Ritesh is also the recipient of many learning and teaching grants.
As one of the most prolific contributors to mainstream media at CQUniversity, he engages in public scholarship with the broader community, both nationally and internationally, on diverse socio-technology related topical issues via popular media platforms. He has been interviewed multiple times on radio talkback shows and received media attention in many outlets such as The Age, The Australian, The Conversation, SBS, Sydney Morning Herald and The Guardian for his work on various information systems-related topics.
Ritesh is a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (SFHEA), which further acknowledges his sustained effectiveness and academic leadership in higher education learning and teaching. He is also a senior member of IEEE and the Australian Computer Society. He holds membership of IEEE Computer Society and the IEEE Green ICT Community too. He was also the chair of the Melbourne Campus Sustainability Committee which focussed on environmental sustainability awareness, periodic sustainability initiatives, opportunities for new ideas and teaching real-world relevance of sustainability in class.
Ritesh has a successful track record of different leadership roles – Unit Coordinator, Discipline Lead, Head of Course, Acting Campus Leader and Acting Deputy Dean Research. In addition, he has significant governance experience in both private and public committees and at the local and state government level. He has successfully influenced public policy decisions through the Victorian parliament’s social media inquiry submission and his articles on the smartwatch ban in Australian exam halls.
Ritesh also contributes to social goodness by volunteering for multiple social groups and participating in many community engagement causes. On a casual note, his hobbies include philately and numismatics.
Last but not least, and in line with the philosophical author Kahlil Gibran’s teachings, Ritesh helps students discover what already lies half asleep in the dawning of their knowledge and gives not of his wisdom but instead of his faith and lovingness, leading them to the threshold of their mind.
(P.S. Associate Professor Ritesh Chugh is open to opportunities for collaborative, multidisciplinary and cross-disciplinary research projects that bring differing viewpoints on board. He looks forward to advancing research through an amalgamation of academia, industry and community. Potential collaborators and research students are welcome to reach out to him directly.)
