Ritesh Chugh is an Associate Professor in Information and Communication Technologies at the School of Engineering and Technology. Recognised among the Stanford/Elsevier World's Top 2% Scientists for his globally impactful research, he addresses the challenges and opportunities of a digitally transforming world by combining interdisciplinary research and innovative teaching practices. He is an award-winning educator and researcher who has significantly contributed to impactful research, learner-centred teaching practices, and meaningful industry engagement.
As a socio-technological expert, his research investigates the multifaceted interactions between information technologies, individuals, and organisations, focusing on their influence, adoption, and integration in societal and organisational contexts. Adopting an interdisciplinary approach, he explores the socio-technical dimensions of information technologies and systems, including systems management, social media, knowledge management, project management, educational technologies, and technology-enhanced learning. His work has been widely published in high-quality journals, complemented by numerous book chapters and high-impact conference papers. His contributions have been recognised with institutional accolades, including the Dean’s Award for Mid-Career Research Excellence and the Vice-Chancellor’s Commendation for Outstanding Researcher (Mid-Career).
Ritesh’s expertise lies in qualitative research, and he has extensive experience in framework development, conducting focus groups, and qualitative analysis. He actively contributes to the academic community as a peer reviewer, program committee member, session chair, and program committee chair for international conferences. Additionally, he serves on the editorial boards of several high-quality journals, reflecting his dedication to advancing knowledge in his field.
Ritesh’s teaching is informed by scholarship and guided by his self-coined TEACHING philosophy: Thoughtful, Eclectic, Approachable, Challenging, Humorous, Inquisitive, Natural, and Gauging. With extensive experience at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels, he has developed and delivered courses in Information Systems Management, Process Management, Professional Skills and Ethics, and Project Management. His commitment to learning and teaching has been recognised through multiple awards, including the International Education Association of Australia (IEAA)’s Best Practice in International Education Award, the Vice-Chancellor’s Award for Good Practice, the Staff Award for International Education, and the Student Voice Award.
In addition to his achievements in teaching and research, Ritesh has demonstrated leadership in higher education and governance. He has held several key leadership roles, including Discipline Lead, Head of Course, Acting Campus Leader, and Acting Deputy Dean of Research. His governance contributions span local, state, and institutional levels, where he has influenced public policy decisions, such as the Victorian Parliament’s social media inquiry and the smartwatch ban in Australian exam halls. Furthermore, Ritesh served as an Academic Board Member for two terms and is currently a member of the University Council, showcasing his commitment to institutional leadership and development.
His experience in multicultural educational settings has equipped him with a blend of domestic and global perspectives. This exposure has enriched his ability to address diverse student needs and global educational challenges. Additionally, Ritesh has secured numerous learning and teaching grants, enabling the development of innovative pedagogical initiatives and research projects.
As one of CQUniversity's most prolific contributors to mainstream media, Ritesh actively engages in public scholarship on socio-technological and educational issues, sharing his insights nationally and internationally. His insights have been featured in major media outlets such as The Age, The Australian, The Conversation, ABC News, SBS, Sydney Morning Herald, The Guardian, and the Washington Post.
As an accomplished speaker, Ritesh has delivered keynotes and guest speeches nationally and internationally across educational, professional, and entrepreneurial settings, fostering dialogue and collaboration with diverse audiences.
Ritesh is a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (SFHEA), further acknowledging his academic leadership in higher education learning and teaching. He is also a Senior Member of IEEE and the Australian Computer Society and holds memberships in the IEEE Computer Society and the IEEE Green ICT Community. As Chair of the Melbourne Campus Sustainability Committee, he championed environmental awareness and integrated sustainability initiatives into teaching.
Beyond academia, Ritesh is committed to social causes, volunteering for multiple community groups, and participating in various engagement initiatives. On a personal note, he enjoys philately and numismatics.
Guided by the teachings of philosopher Kahlil Gibran, Ritesh helps students discover what already lies half asleep in the dawning of their knowledge and gives not of his wisdom but instead of his faith and lovingness, leading them to the threshold of their mind. He welcomes opportunities for collaborative, multidisciplinary research projects and invites potential collaborators and research students to connect with him directly.
