Kieren was born in western Queensland and spent most of his childhood in various bits of the central Queensland area. He travels whenever he can, is a bit of a foodie and loves cats.
After studying undergraduate computing in the early 1990s, Kieren worked in industry in varied roles before taking on an academic role at CQU in 2000. He completed his PhD in 2007.
Kieren brings real-life industry experience combined with practical organisational research to his academic position. He began his career with hands-on technical roles in networking, programming and systems & database administration before progressing onto team leadership and project management roles in large software implementation projects.
On becoming an academic, Kieren focused on developing and delivering core and advanced networking and system administration units. He has held various leadership roles including in the networking and core undergraduate & postgraduate disciplines. In recent years his teaching focus has been the postgraduate core and in 2020 he took an active role in the cyber discipline space and currently has responsibility for the Master of Cyber Analytics course.

Kieren is the Head of Course for the Master of Cyber Analytics.
While Kieren works and teaches in technical areas, his main interest is human and organisational behaviour relating to technology. In particular, Kieren has an interest in the way organisations apply technology. His PhD focussed on how organisations choose systems, particularly complex information systems like ERPs. While still very interested in the technical aspects of IT, Kieren's research focuses on how organisations can improve outcomes from investments in information systems and technology by examining the evaluation and implementation processes.
