About Me

Before joining CQUniversity in June 2018, Dr. Poon worked at RMIT University (2016-2018) and The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (1999-2016).

Dr. Poon has a diverse range of research interests, including software engineering (particularly software testing); information systems security, control & audit; IT in education; end user computing; e-commerce; and enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems. He has published in top-tier venues, including IEEE Transactions on Software Engineering, IEEE Transactions on ReliabilityIEEE Transactions on Education, ACM Computing Surveys, and Communications of the ACM.

Dr. Poon has served as a Reviewer for various journals such as IEEE Transactions on Reliability; IEEE Transactions on EducationDecision Support Systems; Journal of Systems & Software; Software: Practice & Experience; Information & Software Technology; International Journal of Information Management; Software Testing, Verification & Reliability; and IET Software. He has also served as a Guest Editor for two special issues of the Journal of Systems & Software, and is on the editorial review board of the Journal of Organizational & End User Computingthe International Journal of Information Systems & Supply Chain Management, the International Journal of R&D Innovation Strategy, and the Journal of Information Systems Education. Furthermore, he served in the editorial board of the ISACA Journal: The Source for IT Governance Professionals (formerly Information Systems Control Journal).

In 2020, Dr. Poon has successfully secured a research grant (US$ 50,000) from Facebook Research, allowing him and his co-investigator to work together with research scientists there for collaborative projects. The topic of this research grant is "Identify Metamorphic Relations for Testing Web-Enabled Simulation Systems", under the funding scheme "Agent-based User Interaction Simulation to Find and Fix Integrity and Privacy Issues". This prestigious grant is highly competitive. According to Facebook Research's website, many previous awards recipients came from highly prestigious U.S. and U.K. institutions such as MIT, Harvard, Princeton, Yale, Stanford, Chicago, UC Berkeley, CalTech, Columbia, Cornell, Carnegie Mellon, Rutgers, Dartmouth, Oxford, University College London, and Imperial College London, among others.

Previous teaching

I have been teaching in the university sector since 1999 at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. Courses that I had taught include: information systems security, control & audit; management information systems; accounting information systems; decision support systems; contemporary issues in ICT.
