About Me
I acknowledge the sacredness of this place and pay respect to the Darumbal People where I live and work. I was born on Kamilaroi Country, Tamworth NSW, and have spent most of my life on Worimi Country, Nelson Bay, just north of Newcastle, the land of the Awabakal and Worimi People. Long time gunganbu, friend and Gumbaynggirr Elder, Aunty Shaa Smith, invites everyone to honour their ancestors - so heeding her call, I pay my respects to my ancestors from Devon, south-western England, and Connacht, central-western Ireland.
General
Background
My research and teaching relationships have emerged in the discipline of human geography which I acknowledge was implicated and used to justify colonisation and imperial expansion. My current work in environmental humanities, specifically Indigenous geographies, geographies of asylum seeking and regional migration, and critical development studies, aims to highlight the challenges and possibilities of working with communities to assert and advocate self-determination and psycho-social wellbeing.
