About Me

Dr Daniel Maddock FHEA, is an accomplished academic, tertiary educator, and researcher specialising in visual and digital literacies and their innovative integration into teaching and learning practices. Recognised for excellence in higher education, he holds a Fellowship to the Higher Education Academy, is a member of the Australasian Academic Integrity Network, and has consistently achieved high evaluations for teaching quality. His research and pedagogical contributions include publications in leading quartile-one journals, non-traditional scholarly outputs, and success in securing competitive research grants.

With over fifteen years of experience in tertiary education, Dr Maddock has taught across a variety of contexts, including lecturing for the Griffith Film School and University of Southern Queensland and providing strategic leadership in online asynchronous pedagogical design. His expertise lies in enhancing educational experiences through media and technology, as well as empowering students and educators to develop critical visual and digital literacies.

An accomplished researcher, Dr Maddock has earned more than fifty citations from over thirty publications, many of which are Q1 ranked. His PhD thesis was nominated for the Chancellor’s Medal for Excellence in PhD Research at Griffith University, marking a first for the Queensland College of Art.

In addition to his academic endeavours, Dr Maddock is an Australian Cinematography Society award-winning cinematographer. His production credits span internationally broadcast and award-winning television dramas, acclaimed short films, nationally broadcast documentaries and a feature film screened in Australian cinemas and currently streaming online.

As an innovative educator and scholar, Dr Maddock bridges theory and practice, fostering an environment of academic excellence. His leadership in curriculum design, research-informed teaching, and commitment to lifelong learning continue to shape the educational experiences of students and educators alike.
