About Me
I am a nursing academic and a practising clinician with experience in varying acute clinical practice, research and education. I completed my Bachelor of Science in Nursing in the Philippines and my Master of Health Sciences in New Zealand. In 2024, I earned my Doctor of Philosophy degree at the School of Public Health, The University of Queensland in Australia. In this PhD program, I was a recipient of Australian Government Research Training Program with Tuition Fee Offset and Stipend Scholarship to complete my research focusing on the integration of nurses in antimicrobial stewardship in the intensive care unit.
With 16 years of clinical experience, I have worked across acute care specialties such as emergency, spinal, acute neurosurgery, intensive care, and coronary care in three countries, namely the Philippines, New Zealand and Australia. I maintain active nursing registrations in Australia and in the State of New York in the United States. I am a board-certified CCRN through the American Association of Critical-Care Nurses and also a qualified adult educator with a Diploma in Adult and Tertiary Teaching. Prior to working at CQUniversity, I worked as a sessional academic at the University of the Sunshine Coast where I taught Drug Therapy and Preparation for Practice courses for undergraduate nursing students. Alongside sessional teaching, I worked as a Registered Nurse in the intensive care unit, a casual Clinical Nurse for the Medical Emergency Team Response, and a Nurse Educator in the Nursing and Midwifery Practice Development Team at the Sunshine Coast Hospital and Health Service.
My research interests in antimicrobial stewardship, quality improvement, andragogy, implementation science, critical care, bioethics, and public health. I have experience conducting both quantitative and qualitative methodologies in my research studies, with particular interest in grounded theory and duo-ethnography. I also concurrently hold an Honorary Research Fellow position in the School of Public Health at The University of Queensland.
