About Me

As a Senior Lecturer in the College I teach across different undergraduate units including into on campus learning that prepares students for clinical placement. I am an active member of the learning and teaching community attending the school course committee and writing unit content. I have degrees in nursing and education.

I am also an active researcher focusing on clinical education and improving the quality of learning experiences for nursing students and the registered nurses who supervise them in practice. I research with clinical supervisors designing, implementing and evaluating evidenced based clinical teaching strategies. I have co-authored more than 65 published manuscripts  and 7 book chapters on these topics.

General
Background

As a registered nurse and nurse educator I have had diverse clinical and clinical educator experiences, most recently focused on facilitation roles and on medical/surgical nursing.

My area of interest in nursing education and research is clinical learning teaching and my goal is to be a sought after educator and researcher supporting registered nurses working in the clinical teaching/work integrated learning space.

This broad subject means I engage in research and education in the following areas;

  1. professional development and professional identity formation for registered nurses teaching at the bedside and in classrooms
  2. preceptorship as a learning and teaching philosophy
  3. practice based and work integrated learning
  4. informing quality in students' experiences of clinical learning
  5. story and narrative pedagogy in nursing
  6. healthcare simulation
  7. research methodologies - action research approaches, critical social theory, systematic reviews, qualitative and mixed methods approches

I am very keen to partner with any individuals and communities interested in improving the quality of nurses and nursing students clinical learning and teaching.
