About Me

As Head of Professional Practice in the School of Nursing, Midwifery and Social Sciences (SNMSS) at CQUniversity, I liaise with industry partners to provide quality clinical learning for CQU (and other) nursing students. As a Senior Lecturer in the College I teach across different undergraduate units including into on campus learning that prepares students for clinical placement. I am an active member of the learning and teaching community attending the school course committee and writing unit content. I have degrees in nursing and education and my teaching and early career research is focused on: education for undergraduates and clinicians to improve clinical learning and clinical teaching using evidenced based classroom and bedside teaching strategies. I have co-authored more than 50 published manuscripts  and 5 book chapters on these topics.

General
Background

As a registered nurse and nurse educator I have had diverse clinical and clinical educator experiences, most recently focussed on facilitation roles and on medical/surgical nursing.

My area of interest in nursing education and research is primarily clinical teaching and my goal is to be a sought after educator to support stakeholders working in the clinical teaching/work integrated learning space.

This broad subject means I am an engaged researcher and educator in the following areas;

  1. professional development and professional identity formation for registered nurses working in both classroom and clinical settings and transitioning to clinical teaching role
  2. preceptorship
  3. work integrated learning
  4. enhancing students experiences of clinical learning
  5. story and narrative pedagogy in nursing
  6. healthcare simulation
  7. research methodologies - action research approaches, critical social theory, systematic reviews, qualitative, mixed methods approches
