About Me
Dr. Mehedi Hasan is a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at School of Engineering and Technology, currently engaged in a project under the Solving Plastic Waste Cooperative Research Centre (CRC), in collaboration with APR Plastic. The Solving Plastic Waste CRC is a 10-year national initiative that brings together research institutions, industry, and government to tackle Australia’s plastic waste challenges through innovative, end-user driven solutions.
Dr. Hasan has over 10 years of research experience in the areas of energy and environment, alternative fuels, and the circular economy, along with 3 years of teaching experience in undergraduate and postgraduate mechanical engineering programs. He has hands-on expertise in operating pilot-scale pyrolysis reactors for converting waste plastics into valuable energy products. His technical skills include process optimisation and control using Aspen Plus, ANOVA analysis, and computational fluid dynamics (CFD) tools.
He has worked closely with industry partners and multidisciplinary teams to design and operate a 3-tonne industrial-scale pyrolysis plant, contributing to practical advancements in waste-to-energy technology. Dr. Hasan has also mentored PhD and Master's students, guiding research in pyrolysis and sustainable energy systems.
To date, he has published more than 40 peer-reviewed journal articles, book chapters and conference papers, which have received around 2,000 citations, with a current h-index of 17 (Google Scholar). He has secured approximately AUD 125,000 in research funding as an investigator and has contributed as a researcher to various government and industry-funded projects with a combined value of around AUD 2 million.
Dr. Hasan is a member of Engineers Australia and other professional networks related to renewable energy and sustainable technologies. His ongoing research aims to support the transition toward a circular economy by developing innovative technologies for plastic waste conversion and clean energy production.
