About Me
Gitte Galea is a Lecturer in Information and Communications Technology (ICT) within the ICT Foundations and Information Systems & Analysis disciplines at CQUniversity’s School of Engineering and Technology.
With more than 20 years of professional experience in the ICT industry, Gitte has held a range of positions at organisations including Cairns Regional Council, James Cook University and Tourism Tropical North Queensland. Her roles have spanned Project Manager, Systems Analyst, Business Analyst and Technical Lead. Drawing on this extensive background, Gitte now teaches undergraduate and postgraduate students, bringing practical insight and workplace relevance to her lectures, tutorials, and workshops.
A strong advocate for pedagogy before technology, Gitte believes that meaningful learning begins with sound educational design rather than the tools themselves. This principle underpins her teaching practice, where she integrates technology only when it enhances, not dictates, student learning. Similarly, her industry experience has informed a deep commitment to people and process before technology in organisational contexts, emphasising that sustainable digital solutions must be grounded in human needs, organisational culture and effective process management.
Gitte is also an active researcher in information systems, organisational practice and management. Her research interests include the use of educational technologies in tertiary and secondary contexts, health communication, the ethical use of technology and its broader societal impacts. A published researcher, she continues to explore how technology can be leveraged responsibly, ethically, and effectively across both education and industry.
