About Me

Jeremy is a transdisciplinary environmental economist, with strong research interests in natural resource management and geographic information systems. Jeremy applies non-market valuation techniques (e.g. choice modelling) to the study of environmental assets, ecosystem services and biodiversity. Since he joined CQUniversity in 2016, he has led or been involved in over $1.2M in research projects related to the assessment of socio-cultural, economic and environmental impacts in the Great Barrier Reef region. His current research relates to the application of revealed and stated preference techniques to value the environment. Jeremy is an active member of the Australasian Agricultural and Resource Economics Society (AARES) and the Young Ecosystem Services Specialists (YESS).

Jeremy currently works in Brisbane and Rockhampton as part of Prof. John Rolfe's Applied Economics Research Group, on several issues in link with water quality economics in the Great Barrier Reef Basin, Queensland. Since December 2019, he is also affiliated with CMERC, CQUniversity's Coastal Marine Ecosystems Research Centre based in Gladstone.

General
Background

Jeremy completed his undergraduate degree in Bioscience Engineering - Agriculture Engineering in 2006 and his MSc in Bioscience Engineering - Nature, Water and Forest Management in 2008 at Gembloux Agro-Bio Tech, University of Liège, Belgium. During his final Masters year, Jeremy obtained a merit-based Erasmus grant to undertake a Double-degree program at Cranfield University, United Kingdom, where he completed a second MSc degree in Land Management - Natural Resource Management in 2008. Jeremy was awarded Cranfield’s Keech Trophy Award 2009 for the Best Student in Natural Resource Management and Ecological Conservation Options of the MSc Land Management Course, Cranfield University, UK.

Jeremy's enthusiasm for Geographic Information Systems (GIS) pushed him into working for 2 years in the GIS industry. He then decided to keep pursuing his dream to become an environmental scientist by completing a PhD on the valuation and mapping of cultural ecosystem services in 2015 at KU Leuven, Belgium, before moving to Brisbane, Australia. Jeremy's background is consequently a mix of GIS, environmental sciences, agriculture/forest engineering and economics.
