I am an experienced academic, manager, midwife and nurse. My extensive experience as a midwife, educator and manager within the public health system has underpinned my academic career. My teaching within the tertiary sector was recognised nationally in 2006, I received a National Carrick Citation for curriculum development, Master of Science (Midwifery) course, University of Wollongong to promote evidence-based practice, research and enhance student-practitioner interaction. This was awarded by the Carrick Institute for Learning and Teaching in Higher Education Ltd (now Australian Learning & Teaching Council). In 2024, I achieved Principal Fellow Status with Advance HE (PFHEA) in recognition for teaching and learning in higher education.
I am currently a member of the Australian Nursing and Midwifery Accreditation Council (ANMAC) Strategic Accreditation Advisory Committee (SAAC). I have been an elected member of the executive committee of the Council of Deans Nursing and Midwifery (CDNM), Australia and New Zealand since 2017. I represent the CDNM at the National Nursing and Midwifery Education Advisory Network (NNMEAN) meetings. I have been the Queensland Nursing and Midwifery Academics Leaders Chair since 2019 and represent this group on the Queensland Nursing and Midwifery Executive Committee (QNMExC). I am a Fellow and a Life Member of the Australian College of Midwives (ACM). I am currently an Associate Editor for the ACM Women and Birth Journal. My research interests include Midwifery Practice, Cultural Safety, Pregnancy and Nutrition, Midwifery new graduates’ resilience and retention and I have published in these areas.
I have taken a key role in influencing the direction of both midwifery and nursing education with a leadership role as Dean of the School of Nursing, Midwifery and Social Sciences, CQUniversity and in professional organisations and accreditation bodies .
I currently supervise research higher degree students.
