Dr Lami Perera is a transdisciplinary academic in Information technology, with additional expertise in social science. He has experience both in IT industry and the higher education sector. He is a strong education professional with a PhD from UTS, Australia. He is also a Senior Member and a certified professional of the Australian Computer Society. He has appeared in international research journals and conferences in a range of different fields. Not only he has had several senior IT positions throughout his 22 years of IT career, but also Academic positions in various universities across two continents.
He is an active researcher in the field of information practices research (that is how the information is generated, how it flows between people, organisations and the site where they occur), Human Learning, Human Information Behaviour (on how humans need, seek, find, organise, and use information, both online and in everyday life) and local and global information-based interactions (network society, networking, globalisation and global connectivity in organisations)
He has contributed to academia excessively in terms of conceptualisation of "site" in cities and how people create a sense of place. He also has developed a research interest in non-western information practice research. His research reflects a broad sociological approach, bringing together the information practice theoretical approach with concepts related to place, globalisation and capital. He is also an advocate for insider/outsider research. In fact, He is the first academic to justify and prove the Karmic capital/Karmic capitalism through non-western information practice research. He uses qualitative and ethnographic approaches in his research including digital ethnography.
Dr Lami has several Academic positions in various universities across two continents. He is a senior Member and a certified professional of the Australian Computer Society. Prior to academia, He has had two decades of professional and hands-on experience in various IT positions such as Systems Engineer, Analyst Programmer, Senior BI Analyst, Senior Data Analyst, and Real Time Manger. His past industry experience also includes working as an IT Consultant on large government and private sector projects.
Dr Lami Perera has a good record of delivering high-quality education in business, IT, and research. He has provided outstanding learning experiences for students and undertaken research and received various awards. He has experience in continuous improvement of the curriculum/content development, course profiles and assessments. He also has coordinated courses, prepare, and deliver lectures, tutorials enrolled more than 700 students across various campuses. In addition, he has undertaken assessment and project marking, mentoring for undergraduate and postgraduate courses. He has contributed to the maintenance of a positive academic environment that is conducive to high levels of engagement and standards of performance in learning and teaching. He has gained experience in communicating research outcomes to both experts and lay audiences. Most of his publications are in A, A+ academic journals.
