Dr Jen Mulvogue works at the Brisbane campus. Her background is in Mental Health Nursing and she has a vast and diverse experience in many different environments and settings. Jen came to CQUniversity as a nursing clinician, having worked in mental health inpatient and community settings, and in psychogeriatric care, also in community development and prison work. This wide exposure to people with diverse experiences and care needs has contributed to her broad understanding and compassion for the mental health nursing discipline and those supported by this care. Jen describes her transition to academia as being assisted by a fantastic academic team and with a university that inspires innovation, new pathways and partnerships and brings new thinking to mental health nursing curriculums and student experiences.
Jen’s PhD was an exploration of factors that influence physical and chemical restraint practice in Residential Aged Care Facilities and is a combination of her mental health and older person research interests and an ambition to find better care for people in difficult circumstances. She has a broad research interest, often in social critical studies.
Jen has completed training in Peer Supported Open Dialogue and is a proud member of the Australian College of Mental Health Nurses.
Jen is currently a Lecturer for the School of Nursing, Midwifery and Social Sciences and has experience working in various areas in both bachelor and postgraduate education.
Jen has a varied experience in various settings prior to her work with CQUniversity. She has worked extensively with a regional hospital in Victoria and had the opportunity here to lead various teams in mental health and psychogeriatric areas. She managed a Mental Health Professional Development team and the postgraduate mental health nursing program. She has also managed a Drug and Other Drug Program in a Victorian prison. Jen has also worked in regional areas of Queensland and is currently living in Brisbane. Since coming to CQUniversiy, Jen has taught in a number of different areas, for example hospital and health management, gerontology and mental health nursing.
