I am an Accredited Exercise Physiologist specialising in exercise for people with mental health conditions. My PhD thesis examined the role of exercise in the inpatient mental health settings and was awarded the Exercise and Sports Science Australia 'Best Doctoral Thesis' in 2015. I lecture in clinical exercise science in the Bachelor of Exercise and Sports Science course and have strong industry links with our peak body; Exercise and Sports Science Australia, as Chair of Publications Committee, Professional Development Reviewer, and Expert Reviewer for the Applied Skills and Knowledge in Mental Health program.
Background
I have over 30 years experience in the sport, health, fitness and rehabilitation sectors. I commenced as a research Officer with the Institute for Health and Social Science Research in August 2012 after 10 years in private practice as an Exercise Physiologist. In 2015 I secured a continuing position with Exercise Science in the School of Health, Medical and Applied Sciences. My main research focus centres on exercise and mental health, and physical healthcare of people with mental health conditions.
