About Me

Dr. Williams is a mid-career researcher, Senior Lecturer in Nutrition at Central Queensland University and a Registered Public Health Nutritionist with the Nutrition Society of Australia. She has extensive experience in project and human resource management with a longstanding career in health care and academia including 20+ years in primary health care and roles as a Quality Improvement and Health Information Manager. Underpinning her research are her beliefs in the need for translational research that bridges the gap between research and practice in ‘real-world’ settings.

Dr Williams has experience in developing and implementing preventive health and health promotion programs in schools and communities in regional Queensland and has expertise in quantitative and qualitative research methods. Dr. Williams was a program advisory member and regional coordinator for implementation of the state funded QUT led PEACHQld Program ($4.5M) from 2013-2016. She currently leads the external evaluation of the Queensland Country Women's Association (QCWA) Country Kitchens Program (funded by Queensland Health) and the feasibility study for re-purposing the ‘old’ Blackall Hospital ($750 000). Dr. Williams also has research interests in the prevention and management of type 2 diabetes using digital technologies, health and information literacy and nutrition environments. Dr Williams is highly regarded for her engagement with communities and leadership skills in collaborative work. In addition to academic presentations, she frequently presents workshops and education sessions to community groups on health and health behaviours.
