Monika joined the Melbourne campus of CQU as a senior lecturer in 2015. Monika started teaching in 1995 and gained extensive teaching experience in various courses in accounting at the undergraduate and postgraduate level in university teaching in India. In Australia, she taught at Deakin University, RMIT University, the Swinburne University of Technology.
Completing her PhD on “Corporate Social Disclosure Practices of Indian companies”, she developed a keen research interest in CSR, Human resources and intellectual capital reporting and Food waste. Her research interests are aligned with her teaching commitments.
She has contributed 15 (quartile 1 and 2) publications (2011–2019). She successfully received a research grant $20,000 from the Institute of Charted Accountants Australia (ICAA) with a senior colleague from Deakin University. She has been successful in two Scholarship of Learning and Teaching (SoLT) Grants in years; 2018 ($5774) and 2019 ($9944) with other colleagues. She has reviewed more than 40 research papers.
She is passionate about teaching innovation and has successfully used Flipped classroom and Innovative, interactive tools like Socratives, Wiggio to enhance the student learning experience. Her passion for teaching and learning was first recognised by the university when she was awarded; Vice-Chancellor’s Award for Exemplary Practice in Learning and Teaching 2016 ($1000) “For sustained multi-dimensional support to enhance student learning experience" and Vice-Chancellor’s Award for Outstanding Contributions to Learning and Teaching 2018 ($5000) “For developing confident, motivated and enthusiastic work-ready international students by embedding industry interactions and career-oriented assessment design in postgraduate accounting”. She has also received ‘Student Voice Commendation for Educator of the Year’ 2015, for a documented high level of student satisfaction. She was also invited to work as SoLT mentor for 2019. She shares her teaching and learning expertise within CQU and beyond.
She has been rated high by her students in CQU, Deakin University, RMIT and Swinburne University and her hard work, teaching commitment has been praised by her managers and colleagues. While at Deakin University who presented under the team flipped classroom in November 2014. Her engagement with sharing pedagogical Innovation in teaching and learning is continuous. She presented at 'Emerging Academic Forum' organised by Certified Public Accountants (CPA) in March 2017 on the theme "Pedagogical Innovation in Teaching and Learning". She was invited to participate as a panel member at school retreat 2018 sharing her teaching and engagement with students within the school.
Her engagement with industry has strengthened with people from the industry, professional accounting bodies coming up and conducting accounting software workshop for the students, interacting with students in the classroom environment. She regularly invites Chartered accountants, Certified public accountants and accounts payable officers, accounting managers from industry in her classes.
