My field of research is electrochemical energy conversion and storage focussing on strategic and applied research that impacts the sustainability of regional energy, chemical, minerals and transport industry.
As a Program Leader in CQUniversity’s Centre for Hydrogen and Renewable Energy in Gladstone, I lead a research team that explores; stationary fuel cells for long duration renewable fuel to power grid firming, low carbon liquid fuels including liquefaction and cryogenics of fuels and chemicals such as hydrogen, LNG and liquid carbon dioxide, nanocatalysts for production of green chemicals and fuels, waste heat recovery to increase efficiency of heavy industry processes.
I am an innovator with cleantech industry and university experience that has progressed ideas to real impactful outcomes. My contributions span from innovation to early commercialisation of energy solutions, achieved through creating new knowledge, building capability and capacity, collaborating across industry, universities and academic disciplines. As a principal leader of collaborative teams my contributions have directly contributed to two award winning projects: delivery of BlueGen the First-of-a-Kind residential SOFC product; and design and build of H2Xport 50kW research scale solar to hydrogen system testbed.
Today I am building capability and capacity in CQUniversity where our innovative research team is focused on impactful applied and strategic research to support ambitions of industry to achieve affordable, reliable and sustainable energy outcomes. We are pushing boundaries from lab-based research, testbed construction to real-world applications, reinforcing our commitment to a sustainable energy future and impacting industry transformation in the Gladstone and Central Queensland regions.

Queensland University of Technology (Nov 2018-Apr 2024), Centre for Clean Energy Technology and Practices, School of Chemistry and Physics, Faculty of Science
Associate Professor. Member of H2Xport Project led by QUT and funded by ARENA, Industry, Academia, and Government. Academic Lead in the H2Xport project for coordinating the design and construction of the H2Xport research grade pilot plant (50kW). This pilot plant is a unique “plug-and-play” flexible testbed that integrates different solar technologies, batteries, fuel cells, electrolysers, hydrogen storage and water treatment. Established a post-graduate laboratory, the “Micro Green Energy Precinct”, with a hydrogen-electricity hybrid microgrid system that enables rapid testing of key operational concepts prior to pilot-plant use and/or digital twinning.
Co-awarded the Australasian Industrial Research Group (AIRG) Medal for Australasian SME Technological Innovation (2012) with key members of the BlueGen Development Team at Ceramic Fuel Cells
