Dr. Carl Gu is a Senior Lecturer and Researcher in Aviation at Central Queensland University, where he also serves as the Discipline Lead for the Airline and Airport Operations major. He holds a PhD in Technology from Purdue University, where his doctoral research focused on airport operational sustainability.
His research expertise lies in airport and airline operations, sustainability assessment, general aviation safety, and UAV system applications. He has contributed to federally funded projects in the United States through the FAA’s PEGASAS Center of Excellence, including work on pilot weather reporting (PIREP) systems, weather latency demonstrations, and safety analytics for general aviation. In Australia, his research has been supported by the National Foundation for Australia-China Relations, where he co-led a project on pilot training and safety collaboration between the two countries.
Carl’s research spans a broad range of topics, including the development of sustainability measurement and planning frameworks for airports, the assessment of infrastructure requirements for hydrogen-powered aircraft, and the application of UAV technologies to enhance airport operations. His teaching and supervision activities focus on preparing the next generation of aviation professionals with practical, research-informed knowledge in flight operations, airline management, and airport systems.
