About Me

Kate Russo is an accredited Medical Sonographer with a PhD and teaching fellowship (HFEA). Kate is highly experienced in obstetric and gynaecological ultrasound with a special interest in fetal echocardiography. She enjoys sharing her expertise through teaching clinical sonography skills, research, professional communication and clinical supervision.

General

Background

Kate has been senior lecturer at Central Queensland University since January 2023. She is a unit coordinator in the Master’s ultrasound course and supports undergraduate sonography subjects including the development of learning resources, marking and mentoring. With over 25 years of clinical ultrasound experience, she is highly motivated and committed to advancing sonography through best clinical practice, research, and engaging students in critical thinking and reflective practice.  Kate also works clinically as a tutor sonographer with SA Medical Imaging located at the Women’s and Children’s Hospital campus in Adelaide, where she is involved in clinical training, education and research. Kate's interest in research led to completion of a research Doctorate at Flinders University through the School of Medicine.

Over the past 14 years, Kate has been an invited speaker at local and national events, showcasing her commitment to excellence in obstetric ultrasound, fetal echocardiography and person-centre communication. Her unique experiences working in the United Kingdom and across Australia have enriched her skills and understanding of sonography. Recognised as a clinical expert in fetal medicine ultrasound, Kate is passionate about education and advocacy for the advancement of the sonography profession.  She volunteers as the chair of the Clinical Supervision Special Interest Group for the ASA and serves as a member of the Sonographer Policy Advisory Committee. Kate also reviews journal articles for a range of publications including Sonography, JMIRS, AJUM and BMUS.
