About Me
Dr Ashlyn Sahay is an experienced academic who has taught in both undergraduate and postgraduate programs for healthcare professionals. She was previously in the roles as Director Health Workforce Academy (2020 - 2023) and Postgraduate Research Coordinator (2020 – 2023) where she designed innovative programs to build research capacity in higher degree research candidates and support for supervisors. Ashlyn has worked with international communities such as Canada and Sweden working with regional and rural communities on health and aged care workforce development, staff capacity building and retention strategies, and social accountability. Ashlyn’s research work focuses on interdisciplinary research and sits at the intersection of critical inquiry, innovation, and social impact. Key areas of her research include health and aged care workforce development, graduate transition to practice, and clinical governance in rural and remote areas. Ashlyn has attracted over $6.1 million in collaborative grant funding (x2 MRFF) as a chief investigator and has published widely. She is an experienced higher degrees research supervisor and has supervised 7 PhDs and 1 Masters to successful completion. Her work advances key United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, including Good Health and Well‑Being (SDG 3), Quality Education (SDG 4), and Reduced Inequalities (SDG 10) by strengthening healthcare systems, building workforce capability, and expanding equitable access to high‑quality education and care.
Ashlyn holds external positions as a Board Director for Australian Association of Gerontology (AAG), Community-engaged research in education, advocacy and system transformation for advancing health equity (CREATE – Canada), Visiting Researcher – Umeå University, Department of Epidemiology and Global Health. She holds internal positions in clusters Ageing Creatively in Rural Areas (ACRA) and is a member of the Centre for Health Equity in Regional and Remote Communities (C>HERRC).
