I joined CQUniversity Rockhampton in September 2018. Prior to coming to CQUniversity I worked in a number of large research focused Universities and Research Institutes, including University of Queensland, Translational Research Institute, University of Cincinnati College of Medicine and The National Institutes of Health/National Cancer Institute, USA. I also previously served as the Scientific Director and co-founder of Ocugene, a start-up to develop molecular therapies for ocular diseases.
My research interested have centered on Molecular Gene Therapy, Immunology and immunotherapy as well as cancer biology and vaccinology. Some of my research has also progressed into human clinical trials.
I hold 2 patents for gene vectors used in cancer immunotherapy and ophthalmology.
I have been awarded a number of academic honors including the prestigious NIH Fellows Award for Research Excellence (FARE) on 3 separate occasions and most recently the 2017 University of Queensland Faculty of Medicine: Leader of the Future (Academic).
