Kerry has been teaching biosciences for approximately twenty years, having a strong background in science, science education, and educational psychology, including brain-based learning approaches. She brings experience in integrating student centred, evidence-based approaches to pedagogy. Kerry has been working with CQUniversity's School of Access Education as an Academic Learning Advisor since 2018 and has also been teaching into the STEPS program since 2020. As an Academic Learning Adviser, she predominantly supports students with bioscience and numeracy learning issues, including disciplinary language and writing support (such as teaching report writing, etymology, and bioscience language transfer skills). Kerry has pastoral care and educational leadership experience from a middle leadership role in secondary teaching, and from leading learning of colleagues and students at a range of specialist workshops. Educator professional development is a keen interest of Kerry's and she has presented a range of professional development topics to primary and secondary educators. Kerry gained experience with mixed methods approaches during her post-graduate studies and her strong science background supports research design principles using interventions. She is an early career researcher and as a member of a range of educational teams and associations, Kerry is committed to progress in education, particularly in the areas of STEAM, cognition, disciplinary language, and the impact of wellbeing on learning.
Kerry's background is in biological sciences and chemistry, as well as educational psychology, and her teaching experiences have encompassed secondary and post-secondary education. She has taught secondary sciences and mathematics in Australia and the United Kingdom, and has worked in post-secondary science education in Australia and the United States. Kerry's work has integrated pastoral care skills with teaching and leadership skills in a range of capacities.
