Dr. Corey Bloomfield is a nationally accredited Initial Teacher Education Course Review Panelist for the Australian Institute for Teaching and School Leadership (AITSL). He specialises in teaching diversity and inclusion in education across both undergraduate and postgraduate initial teacher education programs.
As a lead researcher within the Centre for Research in Equity and Advancement of Teaching & Education (CREATE), Corey’s work focuses on student engagement, educational transitions, online learning, and equity in education. His research employs qualitative methodologies, including critical ethnography and critical participatory action research (CPAR), to enhance educational outcomes for young people who are often marginalised or labeled as vulnerable learners, particularly those in regional, rural, and remote communities.
Corey’s expertise in social education informs both his teaching and research, emphasising the impact of social environments on learning engagement and career pathways. His work explores student agency, voice, and choice, particularly in relation to school engagement, refusal, and career development.
In addition to his leadership in inclusive education within the College of Education, Corey actively collaborates with regional communities to empower young people by advocating for youth voice and participation in education and career planning.
Prior to his fulltime appointment to CQUniversity in 2018, Corey worked in secondary schools for 15 years. Corey has taught Senior and Junior English, English Communications, Media Studies, and Film & Television; as well as facilitating an alternative education program for disengaged youth. He has gone on to work across the P-12 sector as a Guidance Officer, providing support and expertise to schools in the areas of child development, mental health, behaviour support, career guidance, and inclusive practices.
