About Me

Dr Leanne Dodd is a lecturer in Literary and Cultural Studies, as well as an independent author, business leader and mental health advocate, with qualifications in arts, education, business/communications and mental health. Her practice-led PhD thesis explored the potential of creative writing for post-traumatic growth and well-being, and she has published, presented and workshopped her research nationally and globally. She was awarded a Dean's Research Higher Degree Research Award and OPAL Award for Excellence in Engagement (2017). The novel produced from her PhD was longlisted for the Richell Prize for Emerging Authors (2017) with Hachette publishers, and 'Adaptable' (2019) with Screen Queensland/Queensland Writers Centre.

Under the pen name of Lea Scott, she has published three crime novels with developing themes of trauma and numerous short stories in anthologies. Leanne served for six years on the board of the not-for-profit Queensland Writers Centre and is an appointed mentor for emerging writers. She has also appeared at writing festivals and events, and facilitates writing workshops throughout Australia. As a business leader, Leanne has led teams across different creative industries such as Information Technology, Print & Publications , Film & Television and Leisure & Hospitality.

Professional Experience

Leanne has worked for Central Queensland University as Unit Coordinator and Lecturer in Literary and Cultural Studies since 2018.

She also worked as an Academic Integrity Analyst from Nov to Dec 2018 (fixed term project contract) investigating, gathering evidence and reporting on student academic integrity breaches.

Since 2016, she has concurrently worked as a Research Worker on a number of CQU research projects for the School of Arts and Education and the School of Nursing and Midwifery and works on contract as a Writing Mentor, Life Narrative Coach and Writing Workshop Facilitator.

Leanne was also an online tutor at Studiosity for secondary and university students in creative and academic writing from 2015 to 2017.

Prior to this, Leanne held executive roles leading teams across different creative industries.
