About Me

I am the Head of Courses Postgraduate Transport and Safety Sciences and I work as a Senior Lecturer in the Transport, Emergency and Safety Sciences (TESS) department within School of Health, Medical and Applied Sciences (HMAS) based on the Brisbane campus. I am currently a member of the Office of Industrial Relations Queensland – Work Health and Safety – Transport and Storage Industry Sector Standing Committee for 2019 - 2022.

I work in the field of Safety Science as a teacher, researcher and higher education pedagogist. I strive to develop Safety Science professionals as life-long learners and capable postgraduate researchers. My research interests are around Organisational Resilience, Human Factors, Organisational Psychology, Accident Phenomenology and Individual and Organisational Mindfulness. In the clinical psychology field I am an advanced EMDR therapist specialising in trauma and dissociation and as an EMDR Institute Consultant I contribute to the advancement of EMDR therapy training, practice and research in Australia.

Background

Dr Karen Klockner is the Head of Courses Postgraduate Transport and Safety Science and works as Senior Lecturer at Central Queensland University in the Transport, Emergency and Safety Sciences (TESS) department within School of Health, Medical and Applied Sciences (HMAS) . Karen teaches across the OH&S, Human Factors, Psychology, Rail Safety and Accident Forensics programs at CQUniversity. She is a member of the Office of Industrial Relations Queensland – Work Health and Safety – Transport and Storage Industry Sector Standing Committee for 2019 - 2022.

Prior to joining CQUniversity Karen was the Manager of Human Factors at the Rail Safety Regulation Branch for the Department of Transport and Main Roads in Queensland.

She is a Registered Psychologist, has a Masters in Human Factors and Safety Management Systems and has a PhD in Accident Modelling using Social Network Analysis through CQUniversity.

Karen has extensive experience working in the both clinical and organisational psychology as well as Human Factors and Occupational Health and Safety fields. Her areas of research interest are Human Factors, Safety Science, Organisational and Individual Mindfulness and Psychology particularly Clinical (Trauma) and Organisational Psychology.

She is a EMDR Therapy Consultant in Australia and a EMDR Therapy Institute training facilitator and provides EMDR Therapy supervision Queensland wide to Psychologists using EMDR Therapy. She is a member of the EMDR Association Australia and specialises in Trauma and Dissociation.
