About Me
Tracey Simes is the Head of Professional Practice within the School of Nursing, Midwifery and Social Sciences at CQUniversity. She is currently undertaking an ethnographic PhD, supervised by Professor Amanda Henderson and Professor Bobby Harreveld, which examines how nursing academics engage in student clinical placements. Tracey is deeply committed to advancing the nursing profession and shaping safe, competent, and compassionate future nurses.
General
Background
Tracey is a Registered Nurse with extensive clinical experience across critical care, medical, surgical, and management settings in hospitals throughout Queensland and has held a nursing academic position since 2014. She holds qualifications in nursing, business management, and education. Her teaching and early research focus on effective simulation delivery and the management of students during clinical placements.
Tracey has received four teaching awards and was nominated by CQUniversity for the National Learning and Teaching Award—Outstanding Contributions to Student Learning category in 2020. She has successfully received three learning and teaching grants supporting research into improving simulation delivery for healthcare students and has mentored three successful CQUniversity learning and teaching award recipients.
Tracey has co-authored thirteen (13) published manuscripts and has presented at local, national, and international conferences. She holds a Bronze Kirkpatrick certification. Tracey’s Master’s thesis, titled “A Case Study of Clinical Nursing Facilitator Performance Judgement”, contributes to the body of knowledge on how clinical facilitators make performance judgements.
