About Me

I am the Dean of the School of Education and the Arts at CQUniversity based in Rockhampton. I have been working in the Secondary, Vocational Education and Training ( VET) and Higher Education sectors for over 35 years and have had extensive experience in the areas of hospitality, business and teacher education. My research is in the area of VET and transitioning teachers from the trades to the classroom.

Key Achievements


Merged  the Secondary  and  VET  Degrees  for the  first  time  at  the  university  to  provide  a  seamless  pathway for secondary  and  VET educations  to gain teacher  registration  with  Queensland.

Design and  wrote  a  new  VET  specific  teacher  degree to  support teachers wishing  to teach  in  throughout  TAFE  and  Registered  Training  organizations.

1986 – 1999, Course Co-ordinator

During the last 17 years I have been a co-ordinator for a variety of teaching programs. Duties consist

of planning, staff, recruitment, marketing, enrolments, work placement administration and course

 exit. All duties completed over and above my award teaching hours.


1993 – 1994

Seconded as Curriculum Development Manager for the Cleaning Services Industry, Brisbane. Duties

included forming a Curriculum Development Advisory Group from Queensland wide, forming an

 ITAB and writing the syllabus document for the first accredited course in Commercial Cleaning. The

Certificate in Basic Cleaning and Hygiene Technology - CNB229.



Awarded Innovator of the Year – Central Queensland 1989


1988 – 1991

Education Manager and Project Co-ordinator Rosslyn Bay Hospitality Training Centre (Work based

 Training Project) Duties included: Devising the concept, fitting and organising the

Restaurant/Kitchen design and training rooms, requisition of equipment to comply with budget

 allocation. Managing and facilitating the training of all students in all aspects of restaurant and food

production in a live work situation, the first of this nature in Queensland.



Consultancy Work

TAFE Qld has been active in campaigning for more partnerships with cross sectors and  industry. Throughout my career with TAFE I

 was active in developing these links, by consulting with the following clients to customise Training Packages to suit their changing

 workplace needs. This was followed by co-facilitation of these programs to ensure consistency with industry standards and client

 needs. Clients were:
