In 2013, after a policing career spanning over three decades, I plucked up the courage to plunge head-first into the world of academia. Fortunately for me the gamble paid off. I’m now a full-time lecturer at CQ University (based in Brisbane) and teach project management to post-graduate students.
My non-academic background commenced as a teenager when I joined the Queensland Police Service (QPS). My policing experience was wide and varied including 15 years at the senior rank of Inspector. My operational postings included stints as a criminal investigator, general duties officer, regional duty Inspector and district Inspector, in country and city areas.
I also gained significant experience in police education and training, project management and policy roles. My corporate experience includes senior leadership positions in Drug and Alcohol, State Traffic Support, Education and Training, Counter Terrorism and Information & Communications Technology (ICT).
Research Interest
My broad research focus lies in the area of leadership including my PhD titled: “How senior police leaders learn the art of leadership”. Apart from leadership and leadership development, I have research interests in criminology, project management, human resource management, people capability and developing human potential, social innovation and sustainability. I am the current chair of the social innovation working party, School of Engineering and Technology (SET) at CQU. I am also actively involved with developing world education through my role on the management committee for one of the largest educational charities in Bangladesh, Co-operation in Development, founded by Fred Hyde AM.
