Professional Interests

Scholarship of learning, including:

  • Practical skills teaching (including the ‘Practical Skills' series of science textbooks for Pearson Education).
  • Work-related learning.

Research in environmental microbiology, broadly within two main areas:

  • Small-scale (point-of-use) water treatment processes, including solar disinfection and safe storage of drinking water.
  • Responses of micro-organisms to environmental stress, especially light & osmotic stress
