Media Citations

During my time as Access Coordinator for the STEPS program on the Rockhampton campus (2005-2013) I was in the local newspaper on a number of occasions, interviewed on the ABC and also by the local WIN TV station. I also presented at many venues taling about STEPS and its value and these were cited by the media. I also appeared in a local publication when i attained my thesis.

I am an educator forty years, having taught in a range of contexts both in Australia and internationally. Since 2002 I have taught in the STEPS program, helping many mature age learners realise their dream of changing their lives through a return to education. My doctoral thesis focused on how perceptions of self as learner can transform through education, findings on which I have based many national and international conference presentations. For many years I headed up the Communications Learning Centre (CLC) and then the Academic Learning Centre (ALC) in the role of Head of Services, an area that is focused on helping undergraduate and postgraduate students develop the skills, knowledge and confidence to develop as successful CQUniversity students. Since 2105, I have worked as a Senior Lecturer in the STEPS program, teaching in Essay Writing for University, Technical Writing for University and Preparation Skills for University. I also pursue my research interests which include issues related to retention and attrition of STEPS students, Enabling Education in Australia and abroad, and the application of transformative learning theory across a range of contexts. My most recent research relates to the personal transformative experiences of first time volunteers who engage in a 'prosthetic hand' fitting project in developing countries.
