About Me
General
Background

I have over 15 years experience working with the health and fitness sectors, as an educator, trainer and now researcher. I have led the development of industry-based resources on behalf of the Australian Federal Government and Sports Medicine Australia (SMA), including the 2020 Australian Exercise during Pregnancy guidelines and the 2016 Exercise during pregnancy and postpartum period position statement respectively. I have been an invited speaker at professional workshops for the Queensland Academy of Sports (QAS) and Exercise and Sports Science Australia (ESSA) and also the Rural and Remote Training Weekend for Health Professionals. I am the Head of Course for Allied Health and currently teach research-based units to a variety of allied health disciplines including Occupational Therapy, Paramedicine, Physiotherapy, Podiatry and Speech Pathology. I have also previously tutored and lectured for our Exercise Science course.

My research predominantly focuses on exercise / physical activity among pregnant women. This encompasses increasing the knowledge and understanding of exercise during pregnancy among pregnant women and health professionals, developing resources to help guide evidence-based exercise advice in a clinical setting and also trying to improve the exercise behaviours among pregnant women in innovative ways through the use of e- and mHealth technologies. My ultimate goal is to increase the lifestyle behaviours (through physical activity and nutrition) of pregnant women, thus helping to improve the health of the mother and her unborn child and to provide health professional with the necessary education, training and support to engage in evidence-based conversations about exercise with pregnant women.
