General

Background

As a proud Australian Aboriginal man (Wankamara) and a former STEPS student, I have had approximately 30 years of academic experience in Australian Indigenous Tertiary Education. My passion is about pathways into tertiary education for Australian First Nation Peoples and also about encouraging non-Indigenous Students to become aware of and embrace an understanding of Australian Indigenous history and contemporary society.

Since graduating from STEPS and gaining a formal tertiary qualification, I have experienced all levels of government and have been involved in a number of semi-government organisations as an employee or volunteer. My career has included over ten years as an academic at CQUniversity around student support, teaching, program development, and coordination. A highlight of my 30-year career was working with a mining contracting company developing pathways into mining for First Nations People.

Currently, as a part-time Lecturer in the STEPS Program, I coordinate three units. These are Indigenous Australians and Education, Indigenous Australians and Health, and Culture and Learning.
