Ethics Officer at CQUniversity - Administration and assessment of human and animal research ethics applications

Human and animal research ethics, research engagement & impact, grant assessment, public health, psychology, and addiction researcher with strong problem-solving and analytical skills obtained while working on a large variety of multidisciplinary projects and programs in the Government and University sectors.

General
Background

Research and Evaluation

· Completed (December 2021) a PhD in the field of vaccine hesitancy and public health, with publication of all four studies in peer-reviewed journals.

· Presently a research team member of the Experimental Gambling Research Laboratory (EGRL) undertaking studies and producing journal articles published in peer-reviewed journals, and Government reports. Successfully designed studies, developed questionnaires, analysed complex databases, and published gambling-related studies in collaboration with researchers and public servants.

· Successfully initiated, designed, analysed, and published complex research projects in the public health field, with a focus on vaccine hesitancy, gambling, and alcohol problems.

· Lead investigator in a large-scale epidemiological study of drug-related morbidity and mortality across health regions. This study was used to guide planning services.

· Key role in the design, implementation, analysis, and publication of a large-scale collaborative study (Queensland Health & Queensland Police) of alcohol incidents.

· Developed processes, outputs, and outcome evaluation methodologies for the Queensland Drug Strategy, health district outcome area plans, and the needle/syringe program.

 

Management/Policy Development/Communications

· Managed a Queensland Health team responsible for data management, evaluations, and research into alcohol, tobacco, and other drug issues, producing a range of Government planning reports, evaluation, and research studies to guide the Department.

· Led the funding and oversight of the Queensland Health component of the Queensland Drugs Courts program, in collaboration with other Government Departments including the Department of Justice and Attorney General.

· Led a Queensland wide strategy to reduce harms from hepatitis C virus, involving funding and oversight of a range of community developed campaigns.

· Led the consultation and development of the Queensland Drug Strategy.

· Developed a range of public health policies and strategies, including on public drunkenness, hepatitis C virus, drug courts, alcohol, and illicit drug-related harms.

· Key role in the development of a Whole-of-Government strategy to reduce illicit drug related harms in Queensland for Cabinet.

· Provided timely and accurate written and oral advice to senior managers, Chief Executive Officers, politicians, Interdepartmental Committees, and the public (via ministerial correspondence on alcohol and other drug issues).
