About Me

Nina is a passionate social worker and researcher with an interest and expertise in undertaking feminist research that interrogates institutional responses to marginalised groups. She has experience undertaking research with children and young people in out-of-home-care (OOHC), individuals engaged in social work services and women and children who have experienced different forms of gendered violence. Her PhD research was embedded within an ARC funded tri-state action research project aimed at disrupting the high rates of child sexual exploitation (CSE) within Australia’s OOHC system. The ‘Disrupting Child Sexual Exploitation (DICE)’ project explored the implementation of three primary elements of an enhanced CSE response: trauma-informed disruptive policing; multiagency working; and attention to children and young people going missing from residential care because of CSE. Embedded within this, Nina's PhD involved interviewing children and young people with experience in residential care, and NSW police officers to better understand the current nature of responses to CSE in NSW. Nina is passionate about feminist research that partners with victims-survivors of gendered violence and also has extensive direct social work practice experience in the fields of mental health and domestic violence.
