I am a researcher at CQUniversity, in the Experimental Gambling Research Laboratory. My research examines how people experience harm from gambling, and products and behaviours that may increase risk. Research topics include: the relationship between sleep, alcohol consumption, and gambling; skill-based gambling products; wagering advertising and inducements from gambling providers and affiliate marketers; gambling amongst youth and other vulnerable populations and many other topics. A full list of my publications is available at https://www.researchgate.net/profile/Hannah-Thorne-2. (Please contact me for a copy of any publications where PDFs are not available on these pages.)
I completed my BA(Hons) at Otago University and a PGDip at Auckland University. I completed my PhD at Central Queensland University, supervised by Prof. Matthew Rockloff.
Prior to joining CQUniversity, I worked as an analyst at Statistics New Zealand and a research officer at the Gambling and Addictions Research Centre at AUT University.
