Australian Awards for University Teaching 2019 - Citation for Outstanding Contribution to Student Learning
Citation: For leading the collaborative and holistic development of innovative curriculum, community and scholarship in science that positively benefits undergraduate learning outcomes and experiences.
The assessors congratulate the nominee on an outstanding application. The nominee has clearly had a significant impact on her students and colleagues over a sustained period of time. The nomination provides extensive qualitative and quantitative evidence that directly supports the claims made in relation to impact on students, peer, the higher education sector and leadership. Particularly the leadership claims and evidence of this nomination are well developed, and the leadership activities are clearly connected to the nominee's teaching activities and teaching philosophy. Many worthy achievements included, and they are related so the title is apt (holistic). Commitment to students' experience of learning is roundly described.
Griffith Sciences Faculty Teaching & Learning Citation (2016)
Team Award in conjunction with Dr Sarah Cresswell and Dr Owen Jepps
For creating and improving employability events in the School of Natural sciences tailored specifically for science students. These activities have influenced and enhanced students' attitudes to, and awareness of, their skills and graduate opportunities. Continual reflection on practice resulted in the creation of a series of just-in-time employability events spanning the student curriculum. Students actively engage in these activities, network with recent alumni and have gained exposure to a much broader range of science careers available to pursue. The effectiveness of this approach is evidenced by increased student participation, continued staff engagement and School and Faculty level funding.
