I completed a PhD in Public Health and a Master of Public Health (MPH) with First Class Honours from the University of Auckland in 2004 and 1999, respectively. My MPH and PhD research focused on the epidemiology of infectious diseases and research methods. Additionally, I completed a Graduate Certificate in Higher Education (GCHE) from Deakin University in 2011 and a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) degree from the University of Dhaka, Bangladesh, in 1982.
Currently, I am working as a Lecturer at the School of Health, Medical and Applied Sciences at Central Queensland (CQ) University, Melbourne campus. My teaching areas include ‘Epidemiology and Statistics’, ‘Systems Thinking in Public Health’, ‘Communicable Diseases’, ‘Public Health Action and Evaluation’, and ‘Working and Learning in Cross-Cultural Communities’. Previously, I worked at the School of Medicine and the School of Health and Social Development at Deakin University, and at the Biosecurity Centre of Excellence, Box Hill Institute, where I taught Epidemiology and Biostatistics, Research Methods, Disease Prevention and Control, Health Systems, among many other units. Prior to this, I also worked as an academic at the University of New South Wales, Sydney, and the University of Auckland, New Zealand.
My research interests include Epidemiology and Biostatistics, Research Methods, Infectious and Non-Infectious Diseases, Migrant and Refugee Health, Asian health research, Health of CALD Communities, International Health, Determinants of Health, Injury Prevention, and Students’ Engagement in Tertiary Education.
I am multilingual and come from a CALD (Culturally and Linguistically Diverse) background.
I have extensive experience in teaching tertiary-level public health topics, including epidemiology and biostatistics, health promotion, health prevention and protection, health behaviours, research methods, and international health. I also have extensive research experience in both infectious and non-infectious (social) epidemiological studies, health behaviour, and injury prevention, and have published research reports in academic journals.
I am multilingual and from a CALD (Culturally and Linguistically Diverse) background. I have recent networking experience with community organisations while representing Deakin University at the Southern Integrated CALD Child and Family Services Network, where I conducted a performance evaluation of the network organisation at their request. This was also part of a research project assigned to a master’s student, which I co-supervised.
