Dr. Duarte’s research interest is in the cross-talk between the nervous and immune systems and the role of their maladaptation underlying chronic MSK pain disorders. Particularly, he has recently investigated the function of neurogenic inflammation as the underlying mechanism of osteoarthritis and myofascial pain syndrome. As a chiropractor researcher, he is keen to further the basic science (i.e., neurobiology and neurophysiology) understanding of manual therapies through preclinical and experimental research and bridge into clinical investigation.
