Maila D.H. Rahiem, is an Associate Professor at department of Early Childhood Education, UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta, Indonesia, and an Adjunct Associate Professor at School of Graduate Research, Central Queensland University, Australia. Her research interests include the well-being of children and adolescents, resilience studies, disaster education, the cultural and religious components of disaster preparedness and response, narrative research and narrative pedagogy, and culture and value in education. .
Prior to pursuing a career in academia, Maila Rahiem worked as a humanitarian aid worker in conflict- and disaster-affected areas. She is always moved by human stories. This has an effect on her research methodologies, which heavily rely on narratives as a source of data.
Maila earned a doctorate in education from Universiti Putra Malaysia, a master's degree in education from McGill University in Canada, and a bachelor's degree in education from Universitas Negeri Jakarta in Indonesia.
Maila received a Visiting Professor scholarship from Faculty of Humanities, Leibniz Universität Hannover, Germany, in 2022; a Fulbright Visiting Scholar award from the University of South Florida, USA, in 2019-2020; and an award from UIN Syarif Hidayatullah, Indonesia, in 2022 for the academic with the most articles published in recognized and high-impact journals

Maila serves as an international consulting editor for the International Journal of Children's Spirituality (Taylor & Francis), the Asia Pacific Journal of Youth Studies (Malaysia Ministry of Youth and Sport), and Al-Athfal—Journal of Early Childhood Education (UIN Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta, Indonesia); as managing editor of Tarbiya: Journal of Education in Muslim Society; and as an editor for Socio Didaktika: Journal of Social Science (UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta, Indonesia). Maila is an editor for conference proceeding book "Religion, education, science and technology towards a more inclusive and sustainable future" would be published open access by Taylor & Francis in December 2022.
Maila worked as monitoring and evaluation consultant for Consortium for Assistance and Recovery towards Development in Indonesia (CARDI). CARDI is a collaboration between three international NGOs: the International Rescue Committee, the Norwegian Refuge Council, and Stichting Vluchteling (the Dutch Refugee Foundation). She monitored and evaluated of the following humanitarian projects throughout Indonesia:
