About Me

Kirsty is a Mackay local who enjoys spending time outdoors in the Mackay region. She is a CQUniversity alumni and is excited to be back helping sonography students where she once studied. Kirsty enjoys learning new things and is always engaged in furthering her abilities and knowledge. Kirsty spends her spare time reading, walking her beagles or adventuring with her husband. 

General
Background

Kirsty graduated from CQUniversity with a Bachelor & Grad Dip. of Medical Sonography in 2015, completed a Master of Medical Ultrasound in 2018 and has worked in various clinics from private practices, private and public hospitals and a dedicated women's imaging centre. Kirsty has liaised with local specialists and general practitioners to improve quality of practice and care for all patients.

During her sonography career she has constantly been involved in clinical supervision of students and enjoys teaching new sonographers to develop and hone their skills. Kirsty loves those light bulb moments where everything just clicks.

Kirsty began working at CQUniversity as a lab tutor and soon became enthused with helping students to develop their skills in the lab. Soon after she became a lecturer in the Medical Sonography program. Her role in formal education is an extension of her experience as a sonographer and a chance to aid and assist students as they work towards becoming a sonographer themselves.

      Professional Experience

      Kirsty is an experienced medical sonographer with five years experience. She has worked in both the private and public sector as a medical sonographer. In the past she was accredited to complete Nuchal Translucency screening.

      Responsibilities

      Kirsty is responsible for overseeing the sonography practical units at the Mackay Ooralea campus along with working with the casual tutors. She also overseas the unit delegated to her and ensure it is up to date and delivering the content to the best of her ability. Kirsty helps the staff on her team where appropriate and required. 

      Kirsty overseas the pastoral care of sonography students at the Mackay Ooralea campus and strives to help them with managing their study and development of their technical skills as a sonographer.

      • developing electronic based tools to aid staff and improve quality and efficiency of work 
      • contributing to the sonography community through research
      • assisting students through pastoral care 
      • helping improve teaching techniques to further assist students
