With a doctorate in Educational Neuroscience and Fellowship in Teaching and Learning Support in Higher Education, I am currently employed as a Senior Education Developer within Learning Design and Innovation team.
Before commencing my work in CQU in 2017, I was a secondary school teacher for approximately 25 years and nearly a decade of those as a Head of Year in a large independent school in, Brisbane. Before teaching I trained as a rehabilitation officer and worked alongside homeless teenagers whilst volunteering in Melbourne correctional centers for several years.
Through personal experience and many hours spent as a volunteer counselor, I was motivated to seek more informed strategies as a professional educator. Recent neuroscientific breakthroughs, coupled with my previous knowledge in education and psychology, inspired me to develop a Neuroeducation Buoyancy Program (NBP) to assist young people to improve their everyday resilience. Passionate to fully understand the program's effectiveness, I based my Ph.D. studies on ascertaining the program’s influence on adolescent buoyancy.
Before developing the NBP program, I wrote several post-Graduate Educational Neuroscience courses and played a primary role in the development of a Masters in Educational Neuroscience and several online Educational Neuroscience programs that have been completed by more than 47,000 people globally.
Along with my passion for teaching and seeing students thrive I also:
