I am a Medical Scientist with extensive laboratory experience in research and diagnostic pathology. I have a passion in laboratory medicine education especially for students interested in studying from the most remote regions to those in metropolitan areas. I believe it's important that students are able to experience the differences in remote and metropolitan healthcare.
I completed a Bachelor of Biomedical Science at CQUniversity (Rockhampton) while also starting a Bachelor of Music (via QUT). Following this, I worked in private regional diagnostic laboratories in histology, cytology and cytogenetics and developed an interest in training. In 2004 I moved to Antwerp, Belgium and started working in a research histology and genetics laboratory and headed the cytogenetics department. I obtained a Masters in Science through the Open University (UK) in 2010 with a dissertation in the relevance of macromolecules as predictive markers in cancers.
I moved back to Australia in 2013 and was offered a position as a technical officer at CQUniversity while lecturing in Histology and Molecular units. I took a position as a lecturer in 2019 and was offered the role as discipline lead (Pathology) shortly thereafter.
